New Chill Room for Buckie

A chill room is to be installed at Buckie’s fishmarket with the help of funding from the Scottish Government’s European Fisheries Fund (Axis 4 programme) and Moray Council.

The new facility will provide storage space for 180 boxes at a temperature of around zero.

Fishermen operating local vessels generally do not have ice-making facilities on board and the chill room will add extra value to catches and contribute to the local economy.

A grant of £4400 has been awarded from the fund and will be matched by Moray Council, which owns Buckie harbour.

The European Fisheries Fund (Axis 4) is managed by the Moray Fisheries Local Action Group and provides financial assistance to coastal communities affected by the downturn in the fishing industry.
