New business association

Did anyone see me in the local paper recently?

Along with Bob Hellyer from Jaycees Computers in Forres, I am putting together a new business association aimed at supporting smaller local businesses.

The Moray Business Association will be holding its first full meeting on Tuesday 9th October at The Torr House Hotel in Elgin.

Any business owners wishing to come along will be made most welcome. Contact Richard Stokes on 07748128080 for more information.

Hedgehog Surprise

ArieteI had an exciting day at home in Craigellachie on Friday.

In the morning we found a very large hedgehog sitting on our garden path. It didn't seem particularly bothered by our presence, although it did enjoy the saucer of milk my wife brought out for it. We went out for the day and returned to find a new born baby hedgehog in exactly the place where the mother had been.
A call to the SSPCA was made and a very helpful lady suggested we put the
baby in a box and give it some sugar water using a cotton bud to keep it
hydrated, while they arranged for someone to come out. We fully expected the
mother to return for it soon, so we left the box, with one side removed to
allow easy access, in the garden until it became too cold, at which time we
took her inside. Baby-HedgehogIt was then we realised that the white stuff in her mouth which we'd thought was dry milk, was actually fly eggs and so we spent an hour with a tooth pick removing them to allow the baby to close her mouth.

When the lady from the SSPCA arrived she noticed the mother was stuck in a hole in our fence, so using a hammer and saw we dismantled the fence around her so we could get her out. This revealed a second baby.

LuckyWe have no idea how the baby arrived on the path but were pleased that our efforts had saved not only that youngster but also a 2nd baby and the mother, who would have undoubtably died had we not managed to free her.
Unfortunately, it's not a happy ending for the babies as we had a call the following day to tell us that although the mother had recovered well from her ordeal and was due to be released back into the wild, she had eaten both the babies overnight. We had nicknamed the baby Lucky, but I guess that was
a poor choice of name after all.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the lovely lady from the SSPCAwho came out to help rescue them.  This organisation does a fantastic job with little recognition for their hard work and dedication.

We're on Facebook

You may have noticed from the changes to the front page that we now have a
page on Facebook.  Bear with me though as I'm still learning how to work it.
We'd be grateful for a 'Like' if you have an account. Don't worry though as
we'll still be keeping this blog updated on a regular basis so we can keep
you informed of what's happening on Moray-life.
We also have a new page on Moray-life where we will be displaying
information from our Facebook page as well as some info from the pages of a
selection of our friends.

T-7 Look out for us in Elgin

With only one week to go until our official launch date of 1st July, we’re pulling out all the stops here to try to make sure everything is ready.

The last thing we need is for visitors to click on a link and find an empty space where useful information should be.

I’ve been out and about around Moray to raise awareness and try to get some local businesses to come on board and support us. I must say the response has been overwhelming, with many local business owners taking advertising space.

We still need plenty of local clubs and organisations to send details for our free listing sections, especially clubs and events. So if you are involved with any local clubs or groups and you want to take advantage of some free advertising, contact me through the site and we’ll include you as fast as we can.

Look out for us in Elgin on 30th June as we’ll be handing out leaflets to raise awareness of the site. If you’ve read this blog, or visited the site, please say hello and let me know what you think of Moray-life. This is designed for you so don’t be shy and tell me if we’re doing it right.

Well that's us now officially launched and we've managed to finish
everything we'd hoped; with the exception of the recipe! ( But don't worry,
we'll have a recipe online within the next few days.)

Before I say anything else I want to say a VERY BIG thank you to our
designers who have worked above and beyond the call to make the launch date
possible.  That's all I'm going to say on the subject though as we don't
want any claims for bonuses.

As promised we were in Elgin town centre yesterday handing out leaflets to
lead people to this site.  If you are one of the kind people who took a
leaflet from us then welcome on board.  We hope you enjoy using Moray-life,
please let us know what you think by clicking on the contact button at the
top of the page and sending a message to Richard.

Interesting or funny letters will be published here in the Blog.
