Nothing is more fun for children and adults alike in the summer months, than a short walk with a picnic at the end of it.
The hidden cove is a great place to take the kids and there is plenty to do, including rock pools and even a cave. The ability to park so close means that it is accessible, even to those who don't like to walk too far; although it should be noted here that the path is narrow, overgrown and fairly steep in places. Not much of a problem on the way down but potentially a challenge on the way back up after a lunch and a hard days playing
Please be aware that the path runs close to the cliff edge in places so care must be taken with children.
There is plenty of flora and fauna even in such a short distance and on my trip to take the photographs for this feature, I saw plenty of wildflowers, butterflies, sea birds and even a seal.
The views from the top are also pretty stunning with a great view across the Firth; and on a clear day the cliffs can be seen quite clearly on the other side.
My family has been visiting this cove for some years and it is rare to see any other visitors. Although that may change now it has been made famous on Moray-life of course.
How to Get There
From Lossiemouth, follow the B9040 towards Hopeman for exactly 2 miles from the welcome to Lossie sign, turn in to the track on the right just before a row of cottages.
There is no sign post but the track can be distinguished by a small layby to the left of the entrance and a tarmac road opposite.
The track is around ½ mile long and just before it bends sharply to the left you will see a small grass area on the right. This is where to park your car.
Walk along the track to the sharp bend and continue forward on to the grass pathway leading towards the beach. The path bends around behind the houses.
After a few hundred metres you will reach a signpost and a new path to the right. Don't take the right hand path but continue straight on towards Hopeman.
After approximately 250 metres you will reach a fork, take the less travelled path to the right. After another 300 metres the path makes a hairpin turn to the right. This leads directly to the beach.
