Lossiemouth surfer Donald Peace is to join the Scottish Surf Team to compete at the ESF European Surfing Championships in Morocco next month.

Donald (30), who runs the New Wave Surf School based in Lossiemouth, is one of only seven team members chosen by the Scottish Surfing Federation from across Scotland to travel to Morocco and represent their country.

This is the first time that Scotland will have been represented at the European Championships for over two decades and marks an exciting move forward for Scotland and Scottish Surfing.

Currently the team members will have to pay their own costs to take part and a crowd-funding page has been set up to try to raise some of the money to subsidise the costs of travelling, accommodation and fees.

If you can help, please visit http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/scotland-surfing-team-eurosurf-2015 to pledge your support for our athletes. Lots of goodies are on offer for those who pledge a donation.

The team, which was selected at the Scottish National Surfing Championships in Thurso, Scotland on Easter Weekend, will be made up of 7 athletes, surfing in various categories.

The surfers flying the flag for Scotland are:

OPEN

  • Andrew Robertson (St Andrews)
  • Mark Boyd (Thurso)
  • Chris Clarke (Dunnet)
  • Donald Peace (Lossiemouth).

BODYBOARD

  • Max Ferguson-Hook (Dunbar)
  • Phoebe Strachan (Dunbar)

LADIES

  • Shoana Blackadder (Thurso)
  • Phoebe Strachan (Dunbar)

LONGBOARD

  • Chris Clarke (Dunnet)

The Scottish Surfing Federation will also be sending 2 judges to the event.

We hope to be following Donald closely to bring you regular information on his trip so don’t forget to check back with Moray Life to keep up to date with his, and the teams, progress.
